Attracting over 7,000 entries from 83 countries

Al-Omari: Global Reciter registration deadline extended to 27 December

Quran Affairs Director at the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Shaikh Abdulla Al Qahtan Al-Omari announced today that the registration deadline for Bahrain International Web-based Competition for Holy Quran Recitation (Global Reciter), which is privileged by the patronage of HRM King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, has been extended to December 27, 2017 due to the increasing number of participants and in response to the requests from followers on social media and the Competition’s website.

Shaikh Al-Omari illuminated that the first stage of the competition, which was launched on first September, has so far attracted 7027 entries from 83 countries, as well as 71 new Quranic institutions participated. Al-Omari urged reciters and Quranic institutions in various parts of the globe to participate in the competition before the end of its first stage in order to compete for the “Global Reciter" title, pointing out that the ministry is coordinating with representatives appointed in 11 Arab and Islamic states to promote the competition and communicate with Quranic institutions and competitors who qualify for various stages. The representatives were selected based on their experience in organizing Quran competitions nationwide. Additionally, the Quran Affairs Directorate sent about 15 thousand e-mails to Quranic institutions and individuals in different countries worldwide to introduce the competition and invite them to register.

“The Global Reciter competition has received many partnerships which contributed to promoting community engagement and integration between the institutions both in the public and private sectors.

Notably, the competition for Holy Quran Recitation is universal and is open for participation from anywhere in the world where Internet service is available, where competitors can log in to www.quran.bh website, and record their recitations. Then a jury panel evaluates the recitations of the competitors remotely, and sorts them through five stages, and eventually honors the winners at the final ceremony, which will be held in the Kingdom of Bahrain in April, 2018.

It is worth mentioning that the competition aims to serve the Holy Quran and encourage all age groups to the recitation and memorization of the Quran, highlight the efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in serving the Holy Quran globally, and boost the Kingdom's efforts and initiatives in the field of eGovernment. The competition has gained in its first and second editions a wide attention, and has positively resonated with the participation of thousands of competitors from all over the world.
